I’m Lee, owner of Bai Lang Kickboxing Academy, HIITPad and founder of INSPIRED. I have been passionately involved in Martial Arts for over 25 years, competing at the highest level, from representing GB as an amateur through to becoming a Pro Kickboxing and Muay Thai Champion.
My idea for INSPIRED came from me remembering my early teenage years. At that time, I loved Prince Naseem and only wore Adidas because they were his sponsor. I thought it would be great to manufacture some leopard print designed shorts inspired by him – I wasn’t really fussed if the idea took off, I simply wanted a pair – but nonetheless, that’s the moment INSPIRED was born.
And it grew. In those days I also loved basketball and Chicago Bulls, so, I created the #23 design based on the sporting legend, Michael Jordan. My other early inspirations were Jean Claude van Damme, Bruce Lee, Rocky and Muhammad Ali (3 of which I have short designs for). I realised that no matter the sport, wearing something that reminds you of your favourite sports people, teams, places and even fictional characters can really help to elevate a training session to the next level.
INSPIRED is more than just high quality shorts and fashionable designs, it goes deeper than that. Our designs are INSPIRED by great sports people, teams and even countries, landmarks or fictional characters. We recognise that finding inspiration is a powerful fuel that ignites our ambition and drive to greatness. Feeling in tune with that person that inspires us helps us dig deep and find that extra 10% or more, just like wearing your favourite team jersey with your favourite players number on back.
Our designs aren’t all linked to fighters, as they need not be. We can relate to great athletes and teams across various sports, because the fundamentals needed to succeed and be great remain the same. Can the determination and will to win shown by one of the all time basketball greats, inspire us to train with the same determination and will in combat sports… yes! Do you need to be Moroccan to be inspired by the strength, aggression and heart shown by many of their countries fighters…no. Our shorts have great designs and great deeper meanings.
